Amer Shoaib BSc(Hons) LMSSA FRCS (Orth) – Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon
Amer Shoaib is a Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon who specialises in conditions of the Foot and Ankle and Limb Reconstruction Surgery. He has been a Consultant since 2008 in Stepping Hill Hospital in Stockport, and moved to Manchester Royal Infirmary in January, 2015 to provide regional services.
Amer’s NHS practice centres around Foot and Ankle Surgery and Limb Reconstruction Surgery, to deal with complicated limb injuries and deformities with circular frame external fixators. He uses minimally invasive techniques for forefoot surgery, fractures of the heel bone and achilles tendon repairs – all of which have substantial benefits to patients over conventional methods.
Amer qualified from St. George’s Hospital Medical School in London. He worked in London and Manchester as a junior hospital doctor, and then trained in orthopaedics and trauma in Wales and Oswestry. He underwent advanced surgical training in Foot and Ankle Surgery, as well as training in the Ilizarov technique in Russia.
He lives in Manchester with his wife and children. He enjoys hillwalking and running with his family.
Amer is a member of the Manchester Orthopaedic Group. This is a group practice of Orthopaedic surgeons encompassing all the various subspecialities of orthopaedics including spinal surgery, hip and knee surgery, children’s orthopaedic surgery and reconstructive surgery.
He served with the Royal Army Medical Corps in Bosnia, and has experience of disaster and war surgery. He was featured in the Sunday Times, Washington Post and Didsbury Magazine after a recent aid mission to Syria. His medical practice subsidises his aid missions. Amer trained under several eminent Foot and Ankle surgeons and can offer modern surgical and non surgical treatments for all foot and ankle conditions.
He is involved in the teaching of trainee orthopaedic surgeons and teaches on trauma to junior doctors. He also teaches on foot conditions on a Master’s degree course on orthopaedic surgery, and holds the post of Honorary Senior Lecturer at Edge Hill University. He personally organises a surgical course for junior orthopaedic surgeons to learn about foot and ankle surgery, and another course about external fixation surgery.
Amer is a member of the British Foot and Ankle Society, and keeps up to date by attending conferences and subscribing to journals. He is also a member of the British Trauma Society and the British Limb Reconstruction Society.
